storytelling for successful succession

  • The missing piece in your succession plan isn’t strategy — it’s story.

  • Storytelling builds connection, continuity, and confidence in family businesses.

  • Story is the secret ingredient that builds trust across generations.

partnering with

significant families

When family stories go untold, connection weakens, and generational wisdom is lost.

Storytelling strengthens relationships, fosters understanding, and builds a shared sense of values and identity - the foundation of your enduring family brand.

FAMILY BUSINESSES

When a business is passed on without its story, vital context is lost — values fade, culture weakens, and the next generation struggles to connect.

Storytelling preserves your origin, articulates your values, and becomes a powerful tool for onboarding, alignment, and long-term continuity.

PERSONAL HISTORIES

When your story stays untold, the meaning behind your journey, values, and decisions can fade with time.

Storytelling offers a guided and empowering way to reflect, reconnect with your voice, and preserve your story as a lasting gift - one that brings clarity, connection, and purpose to both you and the generations that follow.

A family that hopes to preserve its wealth over time must learn to keep its stories alive.”

  • Creator of the World’s First Narrative Practices Designed to Strengthen Family Capital

  • Capturing values, and shared histories to unite and empower families across generations.

  • Redefining how your family perceives, protects, and passes forward your values and vision.

  • Stories Forge Connection. Connection Sustains Generational Wealth.

Stories are our greatest passport to connection.

As a lifelong learner of the human condition, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of stories.

My journey began with the camera, which became my first passport to connection. Through my first degree in photography, I discovered the profound impact of capturing human experiences and telling their stories. This was back when we developed the film in the darkroom, grounding me in the patience required for every capture.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how storytelling transcends generations, acting as a unique glue that binds families together.

My experience working closely with significant families, including my time with a 7th generation, $16B family, has shown me firsthand how narrative shapes legacies, strengthens relationships, and fosters enduring connections.

Key highlights include teaching Intergenerational Wisdom Sharing globally, including at the Modern Elder Academy, and recording over 140 audio captures. It is a privilege to be of service in a way that capitalises on my innate gifts: listening and curiosity.

The power of narrative and the connective tissue of stories is an age-old secret that forges meaningful bonds, preserves values and empowers future generations.

With 20 years of experience in communications, specialising in intergenerational connection, I believe that every story has the potential to inspire, teach, and create deep connections.

As a Narrative Practitioner, I am leading the world’s first research exploring narrative practices designed specifically to build legacy capital in significant families.

I work in a highly private and trust-based way with families and individuals, and it is one of my greatest honours to serve on this legacy-building journey to strengthen intergenerational connection.

FAQ | process + privacy + working together

    • We begin with a discovery conversation (online or in-person) to clearly understand your intentions, curiosities, and narrative goals. From there, I develop a customised proposal for us to review together.

    • Next, we enter the Capture stage, where I thoughtfully guide and record narrative-led conversations in person. These recorded captures form the heart of our collaboration.

    • Once your stories have been captured, we co-create how they will be shared - this could include beautifully bound books, private podcasts, personal memoirs, digital archives, family business communication tools, or other bespoke narrative creations. There's full flexibility to match your vision and objectives.

    • Finally, we ensure your stories are beautifully presented, ready to be cherished, revisited, and shared for generations.

  • I conduct intimate, narrative-driven one-on-one interviews in person. Typically, these conversations are held in your home or another comfortable environment, allowing for natural and authentic storytelling.

  • There’s no single reason - every storytelling journey begins uniquely. Often, it’s sparked by a meaningful moment or a deep desire to preserve something important.

Some families begin this work around milestones - a significant birthday, anniversary, or life stage transition. Others are inspired by a desire to honour a loved one, reflect during times of change and transition, or capture lived experience wisdom before it’s lost.

Storytelling can also be prompted by business milestones, the passing and succession of generations, or a wish to give back by inspiring others. For some, it’s about connection and the profound act of remembrance, service, and celebration. Every individual and family is unique, whether you’re navigating succession, ageing, illness, or simply feel a quiet nudge that now is the time - these moments are strong signals not to miss out on the opportunity to capture.

  • Simply reach out via the enquiry form, and we’ll arrange an initial discovery conversation to explore your goals and how I can best support you.

  • This depends on the project’s scope and goals. Typically, my partnerships range from six months to over two years, with storytelling sessions conducted monthly or biweekly. Factors include the number of conversations needed, how many family members participate, and any specific timelines or milestones you have in mind.

  • Absolutely. My work is intentionally intergenerational, and I’ve partnered with individuals ranging from age 8 to 98. Storytelling has no age limit.

  • Family storytelling can be initiated by anyone passionate about preserving and celebrating the stories of an individual, family enterprise or their family’s history and values.

  • Privacy and confidentiality are core values and integral to my practice. I have upheld the highest standards of privacy for over a decade, ensuring your stories are never shared without your explicit written approval.

  • I have over twenty years of professional experience in communications, with the last decade specifically dedicated to working intimately with significant families, family businesses, and individuals. I’m currently leading pioneering research in intergenerational storytelling for significant families through my Master's program at the University of Melbourne - positioning my narrative practice uniquely at the intersection of creativity and social science.

  • Yes, I regularly work with families worldwide. While initial conversations, planning, and reviews can be done remotely, the core "Capture" interviews require in-person sessions to authentically honour and preserve your stories. Travel logistics are always thoughtfully discussed and planned at the start of our engagement.

  • No preparation is required. Our initial discovery conversation will cover any questions and considerations you may have. The process is designed to be easy and comfortable for you, with guidance provided at every step.

FAQ | formats + customisation

  • Yes. All storytelling outputs are fully customised. Together, we choose the format that best suits your family and your goals - this may include heirloom-quality books, private podcasts, digital storytelling assets, or custom communication tools. Many partners choose to combine formats to ensure the stories are engaging, accessible, and relevant across generations.

  • Yes. Book projects involve multiple stages - from recording captures to narrative development to design and printing. I lead and manage the full production process, ensuring a seamless experience and a professionally produced, high-quality result.

  • Absolutely. A core element of narrative practice is recognising the significance of objects, artifacts, and archives. I thoughtfully integrate your most meaningful materials to enhance the depth and richness of your story.

  • Yes. Storytelling is not a one-time event - it’s a living process. Many families choose to continue the narrative across life stages, transitions, or future generations. We can build on your initial captures over time, creating an evolving archive that grows with your family.

FAQ | Impact + Value + iNVESTMENT

  • Intangible benefits are often the most meaningful and impactful: stronger intergenerational bonds, increased family cohesion, deeper self-understanding, a sense of purpose and belonging, and the preservation and transmission of culture, values and connections. Many describe the process as a transformational experience.
Tangible benefits are completely customised and could include professionally captured stories in audio and written format, beautifully designed books or private podcasts, and narrative assets that can be shared and revisited for generations.

  • Clients have described the experience as grounding, clarifying, and deeply connecting. For some, it has helped children and grandchildren understand the values behind family decisions. For others, it has strengthened family unity during key transitions. Business families have used their stories to onboard rising generations, bridge leadership styles, or articulate purpose beyond wealth. Every engagement results in deeper reflection, renewed connection, and a shared sense of direction.

  • Yes. Research in narrative psychology, narrative therapy, family systems theory, and social science consistently shows that families who share and know their collective stories are more resilient, connected, and emotionally well-regulated. Children and grandchildren who know their family narratives tend to have higher self-esteem and a stronger sense of identity. My work is grounded in research and science, driving me to continue expanding the literature on intergenerational storytelling in significant families through my Master’s program.

  • Stories create bridges between generations. By sharing lived experience, wisdom, and values in a structured, meaningful way, family members develop empathy, respect, and mutual understanding. Storytelling shifts dynamics and families often discover new ways to relate to each other with purpose and pride.

  • Families working with Nim often describe the process as profoundly humanising. Her unique combination of narrative therapy principles, creative storytelling, and intergenerational insight makes people feel safe, seen, and celebrated. Whether the goal was to preserve a parent’s voice, prepare for succession, or document a family’s founding story, Nim has helped families translate intangible wisdom into lasting, living narratives.

  • Investment varies based on the scope, format, and duration of the engagement. Whether it’s a long-term narrative partnership, a bespoke book project, or a private podcast series, each offering is thoughtfully tailored to meet your unique goals. I provide a customised proposal following our initial discovery conversation. This is high-touch, deeply personal work, and investments start at $25K.
